The Biggest Mistake Wedding Pros Make On Pinterest
I see you slaving away over your Instagram squares, hashtagging ‘til the cows come home and hoping to see your numbers going up. And I hate to add on to your to-do list, but wedding pros,
There’s an important free marketing tool that you’re sleeping on, big time.
Spoiler alert: It’s Pinterest!
I know, I know. You’ve got a Pinterest account already. You’re pinning tons of inspiration. You’re saving all the things for every project, personal and professional. Basically pinning up a storm.
But you’re making a big mistake:
Stop treating Pinterest like your own personal mood board.
Start treating it like the valuable free marketing tool that it is.
It’s time to take advantage of Pinterest for your business and start getting more eyeballs on your work.
Need a little more proof?
Last month alone, Pinterest referrals made up nearly 65% of my website traffic from social media. Averaging 95% over the last 3 years, consistently. As hard as I work to build a beautiful Instagram feed, it’s Pinterest that consistently sends me more web traffic.
Want more stats? I’ve got nearly than 85,000 followers, and more than 450,000 views a month.
These results didn’t happen overnight. I grew my traffic organically over the last 8 years in business, with my Pinning With Purpose strategy.
Want a little bit of that?
Let’s make Pinterest work for you too.
Keep in mind, Pinterest is a virtual search engine, not just a handy app to save all things pretty.
Here are 5 things you should do immediately to make Pinterest work better for marketing your wedding business:
1 - GET A BUSINESS ACCOUNT
It’s easy and free to set your Pinterest account up for business. And technically, a must, according to their terms of service.
Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting that you start spending your hard-earned dollars on promoted posts. Start simple, by using the business features to track your pin stats and analytics. Knowledge is power.
Plus, you’ll be able to brand your account with your business name. You’ll look more legit and have access to rich pins.
2 - LINK YOUR PINTEREST ON YOUR WEBSITE
Those cute social icons in your website header or footer are not just for looks. They’re key to keeping your potential clients engaged with your content and ongoing brand recognition. You want brides to follow those links and fall down a beautiful rabbit hole on your Pinterest and Instagram accounts.
Make sure your Pinterest is linked clearly and accurately on your website. This is one of the most common missing or broken links I see when visiting other wedding pros website.
3 - PIN YOUR WORK
I still use Pinterest to save home decor, fashion inspiration and more. But from a business perspective, you should be creating the majority of your pins from your own work, rather than pinning inspiration from other creators.
That might sound tedious, but you can start simple. Pin directly from your website, specifically your portfolio and blog, if you have one.
Don’t forget: Adjust the pin titles and descriptions so that they’re more likely to come up in searches. Think of it like the SEO strategy you implemented for your website, but on Pinterest. Keywords are important.
4 - CHANGE YOUR BOARD TITLES
With SEO in mind, and the fact that engaged couples are treating Pinterest like a visual search engine, how you title your boards is as important as the pin descriptions.
For example, I used to have cheeky titles for for my pin boards, like “Nom, Nom, Nom” for a board filled with wedding cakes and dessert. Cute, but not at all helpful to put my pins at the top of the results when a bride searches “modern wedding cakes”. Use topical keywords and phrases to improve your searchability.
5 - RECONSIDER YOUR PERSONAL CONTENT
Depending on your Ideal Client, they might not care about the three different boards you have to save baby items or pet info. If you’re like me and you don’t want to manage multiple Pinterest accounts, save your personal stuff as secret boards.
You can still keep a few public personal boards that are on brand, and appeal to your Ideal Client. If you take a look at my profile, I have a few for home and office decor.
Now that you know where to begin, don’t make yourself crazy trying to implement it all in one go.
Start small and make time in your schedule at least once a month, if not weekly, to create your own Pinterest content.
